Yukon PNP 2026
Yukon and Yukon Territory?
The Gwich’in term Yu-kun-ah, which means “great river” and refers to the Yukon River, is where the name Yukon originates. The Yukon, which is surrounded by natural mountains in Canada’s northwest, borders Alaska to the west, British Columbia to the south, and the Northwest Territories to the east. It is unbreakably linked to the historic Klondike Gold Rush. The Yukon Territory was established in 1898 through a federal law that separated it from the Northwest Territories.
The Yukon Territory is home to a few small cities, extensive forests, numerous rivers and lakes, and a harsh northern landscape. Its climate is characterized by long, severe winters and short, warm summers. Out of all the Canadian regions, the Yukon has the smallest population. The Yukon’s economy is very dependent on tourism, hydroelectricity, and mining. Hunting, fishing, kayaking, ice climbing, and dog sledding are all popular outdoor activities in the Yukon. Although living in the Yukon is typically less expensive than in other Canadian provinces, depending on where you live, buying supplies might be expensive.
What is the Yukon PNP Program?
When there are no suitable Canadian candidates for a position, firms may hire or retain foreign workers under the Yukon Nominee Program, also known as the Yukon PNP. A foreign worker will be nominated by the Yukon government if authorized by the Yukon PNP. This enables the foreign worker to submit a permanent residency application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) of the Canadian government. All applications and forms are submitted by the company, not the foreign employee. Each employer who wants to engage a foreign worker must submit one application.
To be eligible, the foreign worker must stick to the IRCC’s procedure and fulfill all requirements. The Yukon PNP Program, or Nominee Program, works similarly to the Northwest Territory program and has 3 main categories.
These 3 main categories under the Yukon PNP program are:
1) Critical Impact worker
2) Skilled Worker
3)Express Entry
Your eligibility for the stream under the Yukon PNP is determined by your job offer. Example occupations in TEER 4 or 5 fall under the Critical Impact Worker Stream, and occupations under TEER 0,1,2,3 belong to the Skilled Worker Stream and the Express Entry stream.
To apply, you are not required to have a job in the Yukon. To be eligible for any of the various categories, you must either have an employment offer from a Yukon-based company or be able and intend to start a business in the Yukon.
Critical Impact Worker and Skilled Worker
The Yukon PNP includes the Critical Impact Worker and Skilled Worker streams. We classify employment according to the training, education, experience, and responsibilities (TEER) they require using the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system. Which stream you must apply to depends on the job’s TEER.
The Critical Impact Worker stream is intended for entry-level positions in:
TEER 4 and TEER 5 roles.
The stream for skilled workers is intended for management roles or employment requiring additional training in:
TEER 0, TEER 1, TEER 2, and TEER 3 positions
Employers are responsible for applying to the Yukon PNP program when they can not find Canadian citizens or permanent residents for the respective jobs. Applicants or foreign workers are eligible to apply directly for the Yukon PNP.
