The Canada Super Visa: What Is It?

Parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents may enter the country more than once with a Canada Super Visa, which is valid for up to ten years. This visa allows visitors to stay in Canada for a maximum of five years in consecutive years.

It eliminates the need for holders to renew their status every six months, which is necessary under a standard visitor visa, allowing them to remain in Canada for longer lengths of time.

A Canadian citizen or permanent resident must demonstrate that they fulfill a minimal income criterion to be eligible to bring their parent or grandparent to Canada under the super visa program. This is meant to show that they can provide for their visiting family member while they are in Canada.

In the past, sponsors were required to meet or above the Low-Income Cut-Off (LICO) for their family size based on a single tax year.

Two new approaches to fulfilling the income requirement.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will change the way it determines family income for super visa eligibility starting on March 31, 2026, making the program easier to qualify for for more families while guaranteeing that parents and grandparents receive financial support while they are in Canada.

With the new approach, sponsors will have two more options for satisfying the income requirement:

What does this indicate for those who apply?

Parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents can travel to Canada for extended periods of time using the super visa, a multiple-entry visitor visa. With a maximum stay of five years at a time, it grants its holder visitor status in Canada for a maximum of ten years.

What is the applicant’s eligibility for the Canada Super visa?

The parent or grandparent applying for the super visa must:

Be outside of Canada at the time of application submission.
Be eligible to enter Canada.
Have a minimum of one year’s worth of private health insurance (must be from a Canadian insurance company or a policy from a firm outside Canada that has been approved by the minister)
Pass an immigration medical exam and
Meet any other requirements.
